The CDT in Pervasive Parallelism addresses the most disruptive challenge faced by the computing industry for 50 years: the end of the one-step-at-time era of sequential computing. To benefit from systems containing many processors, whether on-chip or across the internet, computer scientists must rethink the technological infrastructure. The Centre's research will reconsider how to design programming languages and architectures; for example, to allow flexible trading of energy for performance. It will consider the theories and methodologies needed to reason about the behaviour of this new hardware and software. Industrial interaction will ensure the students engage with real world case-studies.
