Energy storage is a rapidly developing topic that will be essential in the delivery of a global low carbon economy for electricity, heat and transport. The EU estimate a need for 300,000 postdoctoral workers in energy storage within the next 10‐20 years. The students will undertake a leading research project, embark on a taught programme, become familiar with international energy analysis, engage in a group design project and have hands‐on experience running a University owned grid connected commercial battery facility. The centre is designed to cover all of the major energy storage technology classes and its graduates will be attractive to technology developers, users and as consultants.
