The Centre for Doctoral Training in Digital Civics is training a new generation of researchers to investigate how digital technology can be used to re-design local services which will better meet the needs of society. Working with businesses, the public sector and local communities, the Centre is focussing on the use of digital technologies in the provision of education, public health and social care, planning and local democracy. The Centre is a partnership between Newcastle University, local government (Northumberland, Gateshead and Newcastle councils), local and national NGOs, international technology companies, and many of the leading universities in North America, Asia, Europe and Australasia.
