Understanding, predicting and controlling non-equilibrium behaviour is an important challenge across the sciences, from extreme meteorological events, spreading of epidemics and disease, to next generation solar cells and electronic devices. To make progress we need researchers that can discover, exploit and strengthen synergies and links between disciplines. This cross-disciplinary Centre will provide a solid grounding in the theoretical modelling, simulation and data-driven analysis of non-equilibrium systems, combined with targeted industry engagement via 'open question sandpits' and internships. Transferable skills training in communication and presentation, and participation in outreach events will produce versatile researchers with excellent career prospects.
