2018 CDT Exercise

EPSRC launched a call for Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) on 17 January 2018, with the outcome announcement made on 4 February 2019. The call document provided all the information required for the outline stage of the call.  An FAQ page was available during the duration of the call.

CDTs are one of the three main ways by which EPSRC provides support for doctoral training. The other routes are the Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP) and Industrial CASE Studentships (ICASE), which together make up more than 50% of our current spend on studentships. These routes continue to meet much of the need for doctoral students.

Dual-Stream Approach

The call had a dual-stream approach. One stream was focussed on the delivery of CDTs with a number of priority areas, and this was complemented by a second stream of CDTs open to ideas outside of the priority areas. Both types of CDTs needed to demonstrate excellence and all applications were required to make a strong case for a national need for investment in a CDT compared with other routes for doctoral funding.

Cash leverage from universities and partners was required. More information is available within the call documentation.
