The Engineering Theme at EPSRC ran a workshop in October 2019 to review the Engineering for a Prosperous Nation portfolio. This workshop also provided the opportunity to explore the opportunities to provide further funding to extend the research in progress and enhance the impact of the initiative. A new study, commissioned by EPSRC from Clarivate Analytics, clearly demonstrates the world leading impact of EPSRC-funded research. Drawing on over 97,500 publications attributed to EPSRC funding by researchers using the researchfish(r) platform, the study focused on nearly 60,000 articles published in journals covering Engineering and the Physical Sciences during the years 2008-2017. A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. To understand the socio-economic impact of its investment in the area of the circular economy, EPSRC commissioned an evaluation study by Technopolis group.
