Researchers recognised in Queen's Birthday Honours list

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) congratulates 14 associated academics, including a former Council member, on their recognition in the 2018 Queen's Birthday Honours list.
Professor Sir Steven Cowley, President of Corpus Christi College at the University of Oxford and former Director of the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and Chief Executive of the UK Atomic Energy Authority has been awarded a knighthood for services to science and the development of nuclear fusion.
Professor Sir Christopher Dobson, Professor in Chemical and Structural Biology and Master at the University of Cambridge, has received a knighthood for services to science and higher education.
Professor Sir James Hough, Associate Director of the Institute of Gravitational Research at the University of Glasgow, has been awarded a knighthood for services to the detection of gravitational waves.
Professor John Loughhead OBE, Chief Scientific Advisor at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and former EPSRC Council member, has been made a Companion of the Order of the Bath for services to research and development in the energy sector.
Professor Lorna Dawson, Principal Soil Scientist at The James Hutton Institute, has been awarded a CBE for services to soil and forensic science.
Professor Graham Hutchings, Regius Professor of Chemistry at Cardiff University, Director of the Cardiff Catalysis Institute and Director of the UK Catalysis Hub at the Research Complex at Harwell, funded by EPSRC and the Science and Technology Facilities Council, has been awarded a CBE for services to chemistry and innovation.
Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi, Professor of Computer Engineering at the University of Southampton, has been awarded a CBE for services to computer engineering and industry.
Professor Denise Bower, Professor in Engineering Project Management at the University of Leeds, has been awarded an OBE for services to the engineering and construction industries.
Professor Alison Davenport, Professor in Corrosion Science at the University of Birmingham, has been awarded an OBE for services to electrochemistry and corrosion science.
Professor Peter Giblin, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Liverpool, has been awarded an OBE for services to mathematics.
Professor Kenneth Grattan, Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow and George Daniels Professor of Scientific Instrumentation and Dean, Graduate School at City University of London, has been awarded an OBE for services to the sciences.
Professor Deborah Greaves, Head of the School of Engineering at the University of Plymouth and Supergen Offshore Renewable Energy Hub leader, has been awarded an OBE for services to marine renewable energy, equalities and higher education.
