EPSRC publishes 2016/17 Annual Report and Accounts

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has published its Annual Report and Accounts for the financial year 2016/17.
This includes the Performance Report, which sets out some of the organisation’s key highlights from the last year, such as major investments in the Henry Royce Institute, Rosalind Franklin Institute and six new manufacturing research hubs, as well as summarising progress against the council’s Delivery Plan for the period 2016/17.
Other highlights include the award of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Professor Sir J Fraser Stoddart, who achieved his breakthrough in the development of molecular machines while supported by EPSRC; the organisation’s contribution to the successful UK Innovation is GREAT showcase in China; and the UK’s first public trials of self-driving cars, following sustained EPSRC support.
It also contains an Accountability Report detailing the organisation’s corporate governance, and the remuneration and staff report, and financial statements for 2016/17.
Writing in a short statement to introduce the report, EPSRC Chief Executive Professor Philip Nelson says: “These are exciting times as we move towards the formation of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
“The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council is well placed to enter this new era with strength and clarity of vision as demonstrated by our investments and achievements throughout this year.”
