EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training - results of outline call
Supplementary content information
In January 2018 EPSRC invited outline proposals against its £492 million investment in Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) to address UK skills needs at the doctoral level. The Centres funded will equip future research leaders with the knowledge, skills and creative approaches the UK needs for economic growth and social wellbeing.
EPSRC received an excellent response to the outline calls with 354 proposals submitted from 73 institutions. The total value of the submitted proposals was around £1.9 billion.
The quality of the proposals submitted was high, requiring a rigorous and robust peer review process which was commended by the overall Panel Chair, Professor Sir Ian Diamond:
The standard of proposals received was extremely high and made the panel's task both a pleasure and a challenge. I was particularly impressed with the dedication of the team that managed the process and the rigour with which the panel addressed the task. I am confident that the next stage will yield some inspiring research training centres.
Two hundred of the applications have been invited to submit full proposals with a good spread of proposals across all priority areas.
The EPSRC's CDT call ran in parallel with the UK Research and Innovation Artificial Intelligence CDT exercise.
