Town Hall Meeting Expression of Interest (NMR)
The Research Councils are holding a Town Hall meeting from 10.30 until 15.00 at the Hilton Waldorf Hotel in London on 24 February 2017. This meeting is in response to two UK-wide nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) strategic activities currently underway; an update of the current (NMR) roadmap, and the provision of high and ultra-high field NMR spectrometers to the UK. Both of these activities are described in more detail below.
In April 2014 the government’s capital consultation led to the development of a business case for investment in world-leading high-field NMR facilities. This has resulted in a £22M capital investment for ultra-high/high field NMR instruments. In order to deliver this, the Research Councils wish to present a number of options to attendees for discussion. In addition, the Research Councils, coordinated by EPSRC, recently held an open invitation for UK University and non-University organisations to input into an update of the current NMR Roadmap. We are very grateful for the information supplied, which has enabled a detailed picture to be developed. The initial analysis of the subsequent responses has been undertaken by Professor Mark E. Smith, Vice Chancellor at Lancaster University, and will be presented at the meeting. This will provide an opportunity for the UK NMR community to reflect on the updated document and discuss it, as well as the impact it might have on the new investment.
This meeting is expected to bring together up to 100 attendees in the physical and life sciences and inform and impact on UK strategy at many levels. As such, multiple staff (within reason) is welcomed from each University/non University organisation; including facilities managers, experimental officers, academic leads etc. If you wish to attend the Town Hall Meeting we would ask you to complete the survey included below by 09 February 2017. If interest is high, attendees will be selected to ensure a broad coverage of interested parties. Confirmation of your attendance will be provided by 16 February 2017.
A link to the updated NMR report, and an opportunity for stakeholders who are unable to attend the Town Hall meeting to comment on it, can be found at the news page "Update on the current state of NMR infrastructure in the UK".
