Managing large research activities
This guidance is for anyone involved in a large research activity who is thinking about how to manage the project. It suggests how to get started; clarifies the roles of steering groups, project managers and similar management elements; and gives some examples of good and bad practice.
EPSRC grants vary widely in size, from small travel grants to large collaborations. Whilst most grants can be led and managed by the investigators, larger projects with many researchers and organisations may need additional arrangements. Examples include research consortia, Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations, and Innovative Manufacturing Research Centres.
