UK National Dark Fibre Infrastructure Service

EPSRC would like to support a UK National Dark Fibre Infrastructure Service. Full proposals are invited, with an interview panel stage to make the final decision. Funding will be up to five years in duration. Applicants should read the call document carefully, as this contains a detailed description of the service EPSRC expects to fund, and this will form a key part of the assessment process.

The aim of this service is to provide the UK academic research community cost-effective, efficient and ready access to a dark fibre test network, with open access to experimentation at the optical layer. Using the service should be easy and efficient for existing users, and facilitate access for new researchers. The service providers are expected to actively work to grow the user community by actively seeking out new academic and industrial users. The success of the service in doing this is paramount to the delivery of impact. This facility should strive to maximise the impact of UK investments in the optical communication and networking field and is expected to help maintain the UK's position as a world leader in this area.
