EPSRC New Horizons Call

EPSRC invites the submission of proposals for projects within the Physical and Mathematical Sciences themes, which will help grow the portfolio of new, transformative research ideas. The aim is to ensure the continued flow and support of novel, adventurous research ideas into the EPSRC portfolio and broader UKRI funding streams.

Funding Available

Up to £10M is available for this call. Funding is to support projects of up to £200K each for up to 24 months in duration.

How to Apply

The call will be limited to one submission per applicant as either PI or Co-I. Applicants must submit an anonymous 4-page Case for Support and a 2-page Ability to Deliver document as their complete proposal by 16:00 on 18 June 2020. Only successful applicants will be asked to submit full costings and additional supporting information.

Assessment Process

Applications will be assessed via a two-stage process. Firstly, the anonymous Case for Support will be sent out to groups of referees in batches, before the full proposals are prioritised at panel.

Reviewers will be asked to assess only one key criterion:

  • How exciting, high quality and potentially transformative is the research proposed?
