Bright IDEAS awards - The big pitch: Quantum physics for new quantum technologies

Introduction

EPSRC invite Pre-Pitch Applications for exceptionally pioneering, potentially transformative research projects that work towards the Physics Grand Challenge of Quantum Physics for New Quantum Technologies. This initiative will look to support research projects that have the potential to profoundly impact and/or transform a broad area of research. A high degree of risk in these applications is expected and welcomed. The focus for this call is on an individual with a bright idea. Successful applicants will be granted a Bright IDEAS Award.

  • Up to £2 million from the Physical Sciences Theme will be available for this Call, subject to research quality.
  • Bright IDEAS Awards are intended to support genuinely novel and potentially transformative research activities
  • Applicants can apply for up to £250K (Research Council Contribution) in total
  • Applications submitted to this Call should be a maximum of 18 months in duration

Pre-Pitch applications must be costed on fEC (full Economic Costing) basis and funds can be requested for staff, equipment, consumables and travel. Please request adequate resources to enable the delivery of your proposed plans.

The peer review at the pre-pitch stage is being performed anonymously and therefore your pre-pitch applications will be considered without members of the panel having knowledge of your identity.
