Noha Abu El Magd obtained her BSc degree in Nanotechnology (Chemical) (2014) with first class honours from the University of Leeds, UK. Her undergraduate research project, under the supervision of Dr Paul Beales, was focused on the development of a formulation for poorly soluble drugs with lipid nanodiscs. In September 2014, she joined the Bristol Centre for Functional Nanomaterials at the University of Bristol and is currently in the final year of her PhD project entitled “Nanoporous Protein Crystal Biohybrid Materials”.

The aim is to utilise host‐guest complexation to develop novel biohybrid materials, with nanocrystalline features for applications in materials, storage and energy. Noha is jointly supervised by Dr Avinash Patil and Dr Ross Anderson with Professor Stephen Mann as the associated academic. During her PhD Noha has also served as a national executive councillor for the NUS and a student trustee for Bristol University Students’ Union.
