John Bagshaw is a BAE Systems Engineering Fellow, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Royal Aeronautical Society, and a Chartered Physicist and Engineer.
His engineering background is in RF and Electro-Optic systems, including sensors, photonics, and displays. He served within BAE Systems Advanced Technology Centre as Head of Sensor Technology, leading 50 scientists and engineers, responsible for R&D for a number of platforms including spacecraft and aircraft. His greatest pleasure has been in taking science through from early demonstrations of the initial concepts to application of the delivered hardware in operational systems.
John has acted as a mentor and regularly chairs panels on EPSRC programmes; and is a past member of EPSRC’s Strategic Advisory Team on ICT. He is a member of the UK Photonics Leadership Group, and is on the Advisory Boards of the UK Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics, Queen’s University Belfast ECIT, and University of Bristol Physics. He is active in the Institute of Physics, on Professional Standards and Innovation Awards, and in other government panels and working groups. He regularly acts as a reviewer for IET journals.
