Organisation of EPSRC
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) forms part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), alongside seven other Research Councils, Innovate UK and Research England. Each Council is responsible for both advising the Board and making decisions on scientific, research and innovation matters in their discipline specific area. The EPSRC’s specific role is set out in section 95 of the Higher Education and Research Act (2017). It is responsible for covering research into engineering and physical sciences. This includes, but is not limited to:
- The leadership of their specific research domain, including prioritisation of budgets and the development of delivery plans
- Ensuring the future supply of skilled researchers and other specialists essential to the sustainability of the UK’s research and innovation capacity
- Engaging with their community to develop ideas, raise awareness and disseminate strategic outputs
