Communication Strategy

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

The Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Team is responsible for internal and external communications across EPSRC. The team is led by the Head of Communications and covers Media Relations, Parliamentary Affairs, Events and Publications. The Head of Communications reports directly to the Director of Communications who sits on the Executive Leadership Team.


A Communications Strategy is developed for each Delivery Plan, setting out the communications objectives and priorities for this period. The Communications Strategy is agreed by both the Executive Leadership Team and Council.

Parliamentary Affairs

The Parliamentary Affairs team are responsible for responding to Parliamentary Questions and for providing briefing and opportunities for Government on key activities relating to the engineering and physical sciences. The team works closely with Themes Leads, the Executive Leadership Team and the Strategy Unit.

Media Relations

The Media Relations team are responsible for all contact with the press including handling media enquiries, arranging interviews for the CEO and Directors and sending out releases.


The Publications team works closely with the Media Relations team to research new stories and case studies and is also responsible for all corporate publications such as the Connect newsletter and Pioneer magazine. These publications are key channels for reaching both our academic community and our business and government audiences.


The events team are responsible for managing all events across EPSRC, from workshops to science festivals, and work closely with the Theme leads to deliver these.

Internal Communications

Internal communications is the responsibility of all EPSRC colleagues and there are a number of regular channels and forums available including espace (the EPSRC intranet), Executive Leadership Team Question Times, Drama Sessions and Internal Briefing Templates.
